The PezCar LIVES!

The PezCar had fallen on hard times…  The engine was running VERY hot and I’ve run out of time to work on the car.  It sat dormant in my garage for years at a time.  It seemed a waste not to do things with her.  I finally came to the point of “decommissioning” her after the 2004 ArtCar parade (which I did not participate in)…  I posted a message to the PezHeads email list letting them know what I was planning and several people responded with suggestions.  Suggestions such as selling her on eBay, burning her on at Burning Man, and other non mentionables.  And then along came Gary Plunkett  ( Pezaholic (at) Aol.com )

After several long distance calls where I explained the sorry state of affairs, Gary just could not sit by and way the PezCar fade away…  So Gary ponied up and had the PezCar shipped to his home in Edna Oklahoma where he intends on fixing her up!  The PezCar will live again!

The following pictures and comments were from Gary as his experiences with the PezCar begin!  BIG THANKS to Gary for taking on this project (to the chagrin of his wife and neighbors…).

Well Cliff as I mentioned when we last spoke the PezCar arrived on June 7, 2004 just 7 short days ago.  Pic number 1 is the transport that it arrived in...I thought the name was quite fitting "The Ultimate Driving Machine"!!! Pretty cool, Diane my other half wasn't so amused, hahaha.

Pic #2 through #6 the Pez Car is unveiled to the citizens of a little community named Edmond, Oklahoma....ok by this time the kids in the neighbor hood were stopping their bikes or crashing their bikes from the distraction the Pez Car creates when the deer in the head lights look strikes them.

Pic #7 through #10 is me pulling the Pez Car into the safety of the garage (or as Diane would have said...get that thing in the garage and shut the door before the neighbors see it!!!)....OOPS too late my neighbor to the north inquires as to (before it is unveiled to the world) what have I got and after seeing it,  what are you going do with that???

Pic #11  Well thats me (at about 10:15 p.m.) preparing the Pez Car for what I was hoping would just be minor surgery...ya know the local type... with no anesthesia....just the local pain killer and no standby doctor needed.  (BOY was I going to be WRONG!!!))  I needed a complete cardiac team.  Or maybe it was just a doctor wannabe trying to do neuro surgery and totally out of my league...ok ok I can accept that........now.

Well after what seemed like eternity, success at last...the water pump has been extracted!!  “Dr Lee” your diagnosis was accurate...it definitely needs replaced.  The lower radiator hose connection had a large piece missing....and the seal around the shaft was broken...that’s why water poured on my foot as fast as I was pouring it in the radiator!!!  I couldn't figure out why so much water was leaking at first....now I know.

I have no pics of the water pump being replaced....Diane and I volunteer our time for another good cause, local pageants leading up to the Miss Oklahoma Pageant and the Miss Oklahoma preliminary nights leading up to the crowning of a new Miss Oklahoma was being held in Tulsa each night...a 2 hour drive from Edmond and we went there Wednesday, Thursday, Friday nights and the final night on Saturday...we didn't get home before midnight each night.  BUT Thursday I was pumped (no pun intended) and wanted to get that water pump in before Friday because I knew we had other commitments and I wanted to see if the minor surgery would do the trick.  SO Thursday night about 1:00 a.m. I started to put the water pump back on...I figured at worst it should only take about 1 hour..

Well....at around 3:30 to 4:00 I finally got the water pump back together and (ugh oh....Cliff I forgot to put the air compressor back on...oh well you always have extra parts when you put things back together...right?? they plan it that way correct??? extra bolts here a couple nuts there,) anyway my photographer was sound a sleep!! can you believe that you just can't get good help these days....no commitment...so no picture of the successful surgery or what I thought was a successful surgery...its always that darn day after stuff that throws a kink in the best of operations...I guess that’s why the doctor always makes rounds the next day to check the patients condition...

Well after getting the water pump on Thursday night I didn't get to start the engine until Saturday morning.... I was like a kid at Christmas....I got up early got dressed I started the engine....a little leaking around the thermostat hose...I tightened it down a twist or two and crossed my fingers...not bad not bad looks like the patient my be on her way to recovery....so I pull her out of the garage and crank on the leaf blower to blow all the sticks and things out between the Pez and and out of the inside of the car....hey this works pretty good...I might just try this inside the house....open the front and back doors and CRANK that blower up!!!  hehehehe
